Wuyuu Thurri-li (Magpie Sunrise)
Wuyuu warbles, Wuyuu sings
First light appears, expanding wings
Takes to the sky, with splendid ease
Effortlessly gliding through the trees
Morning glow filtering through
Bringing warmth, evaporating dew
Wuyuu has a lot on his mind
Feeding family and surviving mankind

The BirruBirruu (Rainbow Bee Catcher) is one of Sean's favourite birds, "their speed and acrobatic skills in the air are beyond beleif. A family of them will often sit on the same branch shooting out every time they see a flying insect, to snatch it in flight and return to eat their prize." Also, painted on this artwork is the Sand Goanna sitting on the log sunbaking.

This artwork won the KHT 2024 12th annual Koorie Art Show, Viva Energy Australia 3D Award.. Below is Sean's story/poem for this artwork.

Birrubirruu
Flash of colour through the sky
Birrubirruu swooping by
Snatching insects in mid flight
Perching to devour its delight
Rainbow hues like magic
Tail like a Clever Man’s stick
Ancient lands amongst the trees
Feeds on dragonflies, moths and bees
Burrows a nest beneath the ground
Many nations they are found
Cold winter seasons migrate north
Large distances travelled back and forth
This is my story of the Birrubirruu
A spiritual bird, this is true

Standing at 1.14 metres high with an internal led light that flickers to give it its flame like glimmer. This artwork was Sean's KHT Blak Design Artwork. How Waan turned Black was purchased by the National Gallery of Australia for their collection.

This is Sean's story/poem for this artwork

How Waan turned Black
Waan the crow had gleaming white feathers
and a big secret he kept from all the others
what he didn't let on, was he possessed fire
cooked meat, was his true desire
back then, everybody ate their meat raw
but Waan was never messy, that was hard to ignore
this brought on suspicion, why Waan ate alone
so very secretive, something unknown
a plan was derived to snatch Waan's pack
Waan moved like a maniac grabbing it back
the pack burst open, glowing coals went flying
landing in the dry grass, the blaze was un-denying
Waan stamped out the flames, but this was a fail
he rolled on the burning land, to no avail
the fire spread to everyone, his secret was uncovered
Waan was scorched black, and fire was discovered

Galibaay (meaning Red Bellied Black Snake in Gamilaraay) on Country was a finalist in the Indigenous Ceramic Award at the Shepparton Art Museum in 2022, and won the South-East Australian Aboriginal Artist Prize.

Galibaay on Country
This is my Country, where Galibaay roam
Over 60,000 years my ancestors called home
Now everything's changed from the old way
The Country is struggling since white fella came
So little remains from pre colonisation
Altered and changed by so-called civilisation
How can I show the beauty before decay?
The only way I know how, is express it in clay

Sunset
At days end, the sun descends in the sky
the colours are striking, a spectacle to the eye
it is on these days, I sit there in awe
on beautiful country, I want nothing more
my ancestors watched, this very same show
as will my descendants, in the future I know
we all appreciate a sunset, for sure
your troubles melt away, life will endure

Maliyan's Message
Soaring across our southern sky
Watching all with observant eye
Maliyan, guardian of this domain
Bears witness to destruction and pain
Rivers and lands dying, it's evident
From mining, over-farming and urban development
Animals and birds vanishing, one by one
Shameful extinctions, that can't be undone
Maliyan has a message for you
Time is ticking, it's well overdue
For us to learn to change our way
Become one with Country, to heal her today

Twilight Flight
Circling above, in the twilight blue
A spirit strong, through and through
Over mainland nations, whistling loud
A call so distinct, a call so proud
Biya is this raptor’s name, flying above Gamilaroi terrain

Gugurrgaagaa, meaning kookaburra, is a sub-totem of the Gamilaroi people. Gugurrgaagaa is sitting high in a sacred carved tree, surveying the Country.

One of Sean's first larger ceramic artworks, Size 50cm X 45 cm.

The inspiration for this ceramic vessel comes from his Gamilaroi heritage. The black snake is one of the totems and it is curled around the carvings of a sacred tree.

This series of ceramic artworks were entered into the 2016 Indigenous Ceramic Awards, and making it into one of the finalist. Songlines in the Sky is now a part of the Shepparton Art Museums collection.

Before colonisation, before light pollution from cities, First Nations people had a spectacular view of all the stars in the night sky and the night sky was a big part of our culture and stories. The star on this plate represents the evening star, the brightest and first star that can be seen in the sky.
