Yaama (Hello)

Welcome to my corner of the digital world! I'm Sean Miller, an artist based in Australia, living on beautiful Wurundjeri country. My heritage blends Gamilaroi and Scottish roots, I draw inspiration from my culture to fuel my creative visions.

My artistic journey is diverse, spanning various mediums including clay, wood, paint, photography and poetry. Ultimately, ceramic art is my first passion, echoing the traditions of my ancestors who shaped and carved the ground and trees for ceremony. Working with clay allows me to maintain a profound connection to my cultural heritage, as I shape, carve, fire, and breathe life into each piece. It's a deeply fulfilling experience, one that has earned recognition from esteemed institutions like the National Gallery of Victoria and the Shepparton Art Museum, where my ceramic creations now reside alongside those of other acclaimed artists.

In addition to ceramics, photography is another passion of mine. Venturing out onto country, I aim to capture the raw beauty of our native birds and wildlife. Immersing myself in their world fosters a profound connection to the land, providing inspiration for my artwork. Many of my creations are born from the images I capture through the lens of my camera, bridging the gap between the natural world and artistic expression.

My artistic journey has been punctuated by milestones and accolades. In 2022, I was honoured to receive the 'South-East Australian Aboriginal Artist Prize' at the Indigenous Ceramic Awards hosted by the Shepparton Art Museum for my piece, Galibaay on Country. Prior to that, in 2020, my artwork Twilight Flight earned me the 'Emerging Artists Award' at the Koorie Art Show, a testament to the evolving nature of my craft.
